In 2017, the Hall of Fame was privileged to present its Global Achievement Award to Steve Gibbs, former NHRA Competition Vice-President, founder of the California Hot Rod Reunion and mastermind of Nitro Revival. Last year, Steve lost his home and everything in it to a Californian wildfire. Word reached the Hall of Fame that he was especially disappointed to lose his Global Achievement trophy.
So we had another one made. This new trophy was presented to Cindy Gibbs, Steve’s daughter, on 6th March 2025 at the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame’s annual banquet at Gainesville, Florida, by HoF director Robin Jackson. Cindy took it home to her father, and Steve responded:
“Just a brief note to say how much it means to me, to have the Global Achievement replaced following the fire. It was – and is – one of my most prized awards. Please convey my thanks to all those responsible. The fire was devastating, but we are doing very well.
“Again – thank you! I hope our paths cross soon.”
