RICH GUASCO – Pure Hell AA/FA – RIP

An appreciation by the directors of the British Drag Racing Hall of Fame.

Members and directors of the British Drag Racing Hall of Fame were saddened to learn of the recent death of the American Fuel Altered owner, Rich Guasco, at the age of 88.

The front-cover illustration on Santa Pod Raceway’s Whitsun weekend ‘Big Go’ programme in 1968 depicted Rich Guasco’s Pure Hell Fuel Altered, driven by Dale Emery. The owner of that event programme was at last able to have it autographed by Guasco himself in 2014 when the restored Pure Hell featured as a star attraction at Santa Pod’s Dragstalgia historic meeting. The Fuel Altered was built in 1964 and first came to Britain in 2004 as one of the troupe of FAs brought over by Ron Hope to enliven the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Guasco also campaigned Pure Hell Funny Cars during the 1970s.

In November 2018, Rich and his daughter Jill attended the Hall of Fame’s annual Gala Awards Dinner as honoured guests. We offer our condolences to Jill and other members of Rich’s family.

Rich Guasco – rest in peace.
